If a poem is a day, here are but a few minutes... Excerpts from poems that found homes in the Poetry of Days, by Judy A. McNutt

from "Roadside Diner"~

Coffee Settles wet, warm, snug in its mug.

Newspaper lay aside, forgotten-

Dried egg-yolk stained from the misbegotten.

Even the flies rest a bit, on the trashcan liner.

Ten, fifteen minutes of stillness

Here in the roadside diner,

from "Celebrate All that is You"~

Let the breath lead the way

Toward another good day

For you to be whom you are;

To play as a godling in the garden of creation

from "Princess and the Bear"~

He wondered if his stuffing

Was still packed in tight.

Would she still love him

If every time she hugged him

She didn’t feel his might?

Well this went on for years

Ending in tears when

One day the bear disappeared.

All she thought of was his stuffing

All he thought of was nothing.

from "Dawn to Dusk"~

Dawn crosses the threshold,

Praying.

Palm trees, arms wide,

Swaying.

Arabesque drawings

Silhouette horizons grace.

Wafting fog

Alternates, lattice to lace.

from "You Still Have a Dream"~

You had a dream,

Unspoken long ago

Stuffed under your pillow

Hidden from view.

from "Forgiveness"~

After all the scars

The last best release,

Forgiveness restores peace

And preserves the essence of our innocence!

from "The Watchman’s Mark"

The same time slips

For you as it does for us;

we, littlest ones,

the ones left behind,

we, the odd in the back of the room,

we aching souls agonizing against the wall,

the ones waiting for a call,

the too short,

the very, very tall,

the busy, the dizzy, the slow,

from "Bliss"~

Whispered like leaves in a rush

To cross a courtyard of dust,

“Teacher, where do I find the love, for which I thirst?”

from "The Foundation Shakes"~

When the foundation shakes…

Find out what makes

You happiest and follow your heart.

It may be time to clear the decks and start

The journey you’ve been on

All along.

from "Practice"~

The world needs more.

More consciousness

More joy

More love

More light

More compassion

More sound

More silence

More movement in the right direction

More stillness

More gratitude

Today just please contribute

A little more, YOU.
